2022 Q2 Cox Media Sports Preview

03.22.2022 Marco Ochoa

As we enter spring, the sports world will continue to have a heavy presence across Cox Media’s sports networks. Read on to find out key opportunities for aligning your brand messages with popular sporting events.

Come April, the PGA Tour kicks off their Major season with the Masters. Following that, the PGA Championship returns in May and the US Open rounds out Q2 in June. Golf has become incredibly competitive in recent years and has a variety of big names in the golf world battling weekly. Advertisers can make a hole-in-one by targeting this highly affluent audience! This year the PGA Tour will air most events on GOLF Channel with majors airing on USA.

Also, in Q2, the NHL will drop the puck on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This year, most of the playoffs will air across TNT and ESPN. Currently, the Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Vegas Golden Knights are some of the top favorites to win it all. NHL’s new broadcast deal with ESPN and TNT has been a bright spot for the league and has been bringing new fans to the sport.

The NBA Playoffs will also make their return to ESPN and TNT in April 2022. Last year, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks took home the NBA Championship. This year, they’ll certainly be in the mic, but big market teams like the LA Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Brooklyn Nets will all stand in their way. The NBA Playoffs offer advertisers a path to reach the Male 18-34 audience.

Also, during Q2 is the return of the College World Series. Airing across ESPN and ESPN2, the CWS takes place in Omaha, Nebraska. Last year, the Mississippi State Bulldogs took the crown and will look to defend their title this June!

Finally, after anxiously awaiting a final agreement and seeing some pretty big trades – baseball season is on and the MLB will return with only a week’s delay. Last year, the Atlanta Braves won the World Series for the first time since 1995. In 2022, they’ll once again be contenders to win (even without their star first baseman Freddie Freeman) the Dodgers (who now has Freeman on the roster), Padres, and Astros will also be teams to watch. MLB will air across a variety of regional sports networks with high-profile games airing across ESPN, TBS, and FS1!

Check back here in May for a Q3 sports preview as Cox Media continues live sport coverage all year long.
