Behind the Screens: Meet Senior Marketing Communications Specialist Frances Mooney

12.15.2021 Marco Ochoa

Welcome back to ‘Behind the Screens’, a monthly blog series in which we introduce members of our Cox Media team. From coast to coast, there’s a lot of collaboration and behind-the-scenes efforts that go into each client relationship and campaign, and every person on our team of experts brings a unique background, perspective, and area of expertise. While we each have different day-to-day roles, we’re all working toward the same goal: to help our clients’ businesses succeed.

This month, I was joined by Senior Marketing Communications Specialist, Frances Mooney to talk about how her unique role helps everyone on her team create success for clients.

Thank you for joining us, Frances! Let’s kick it off by learning a little bit more about who you are.

I’m happy to be here! My name is Frances Mooney. I’m the Senior Marketing Communications Specialist in our Oklahoma market. I’ve been in marketing for maybe six or seven years, and I’ve been with Cox Media for almost two. My start was a little untraditional as I started two days before we all started working remotely due to the pandemic. So, while it was a unique way to start, my time with Cox Media has turned out very well and I love it here.

So, what does a marketing communications specialist do, for our readers that may not be familiar with that type of role?

The short answer is anything and everything, but the long answer really comes down to three things:

First is enabling our sales team and  the people who interact with our clients so that they feel confident in what they’re discussing. I’m also always aiming to make sure that anyone who looks at our content gets the information they’re looking for easily.

Secondly, we look for customer experience opportunities and just really want to let clients know that they’re valued and appreciated.

Finally, I work with our team to create and roll out opportunities. I’m sort of known in our market for my unique presentation skills – one of those is dressing up in costume when aiming to drive excitement around new programming opportunities.

How else do you support our clients besides helping on the storytelling side?

One great example is the Pay It Forward initiative, a recent partnership between our team, the CCI Central Region Public Affairs department, and Cox Business. We reached out to 15 Cox Media clients and were able to make charitable donations on their behalf to the nonprofits of their choice. I must give a special shoutout to Sydney Choi and Tiffani Bruton on Cox Communication’s Public Affairs team, and everyone involved in helping us to create a special moment for our clients.

We’re all about making those connections and giving back to our community, and it was also a really great opportunity to collaborate internally with other Cox branches.

So, if you could tell your clients or prospective clients one thing what would that be?

You are in good hands.

We have capabilities, we have the technology, we have the tracking that we can provide you to have a successful campaign, but it’s the people at Cox Media that make the difference. You have a team of experts who are always looking out for you, making sure you have what you need and what you need to succeed.

But it’s more than just a business. We’re also supportive to each other, were involved in our communities. It is a culture thing. At Cox Media we’re people who have hobbies. We volunteer. We get involved in our communities. We have fun, so it’s genuine when I say you’re in good hands. We have the tools that you need, the team of experts, but it’s also a good group of people to align your business with.

That’s awesome! So, to close, what are you most excited about for 2022?

I suppose there’s many things that I’m looking forward to. One of the things I’m looking forward to is actually taking the reins of the Behind the Screens series from you! I’m so excited to share more stories next year about who we are as Cox Media and highlighting all the fun things that we do in the organization, in the community and just really telling our story of who we are as Cox Media.

I think we have so many new opportunities to really take our connections to our clients and each other to the next level. I think we’ve all had a crazy couple years now and I think that as an organization we’re hitting our stride. We’re looking at a lot of innovative ways to keep the conversation with our clients going, giving them what they want and need, and just taking our relationships with everyone to the next level. I’m really excited about what all is coming for 2022.

Thank you so much for those great insights! As Frances mentioned above, she’ll be taking the reins of this blog series in 2022! I want take a quick moment to thank all of our guests who have taken the time this year to join me during this blog series!
