The Olympic Games attracts viewers from all over the world, but have you ever wondered who makes up that broad audience that’s tuning in? What we found out might surprise you.

This event is a special viewing opportunity, in more ways than one. Offering a wide-range of sporting events and an atmosphere of cultural celebration and inclusivity, the Olympics draw an audience as diverse as the games themselves.

The comprehensive nature of the games is exemplified by its viewers, gaining interest from a nearly split audience of male and female, with more than half of the viewers landing in the age range of 25-54. Beyond age and gender, the Olympic audience also varies in household income, 27% of which earn $100,000+, 18% at $50,000-$75,000 and 16% at $75,000-$100,000. Beyond that, the Olympic audience is educated, with over 60% of the viewers having had some college level education, and 63% working in management or business operations.

What’s even more remarkable than the varying demographic of an Olympic viewer, is the pull the Olympics has even on a typically non-sports audience. According to Scarborough data, people who did not view a sporting event in the previous year still expressed high interest in watching the Olympics. In addition, the average Olympic viewer generally invests their regular television-viewing time to movies and programs falling in the comedy or drama genre, but still tune in for the sports-based programming offered during the games. What does this mean for you? Advertising during the Olympic Games provides a valuable opportunity for your business to reach a broad variety of consumers.
