The TV schedule for motorsports events grew more crowded in 2023, thanks in large part to growing audience interest in Formula One racing. The elite racing series, which has long enjoyed strong viewership for its Grand Prix events around the globe, enjoyed a surge in viewership among U.S. audiences for some of its 2023 races.

Part of that viewership can be attributed to better scheduling for these televised events: While global F1 races sometimes take place either late at night or early in the morning for U.S. viewers, several of these events, including those held in Miami, Toronto and Las Vegas, were scheduled to accommodate American audiences—and U.S. TV ratings soared as a result.

The rise of F1 comes alongside steady viewership for cable TV mainstays such as NASCAR, Indycar and NHRA drag racing, creating a steady broadcast schedule for motorsports events from February into December.
